All applicants must appear in person to apply for a visa, all applications must be submitted online first.

We urge all applicants to apply for their visa online, as preference will be given to those who submit online. As of October 2018 all application are web based. For more information, please do not hesitate to contact the Embassy. All documents have to be sent online to fast track the process.

Please note that the Embassy will not be liable at any given time should you fail to apply the above requirements.

Apply online

The Embassy urges all applicants to apply online via our official website (http://www.embassyofcongo.co.za)

  • Case 1 :
    If you intend to visit, you must lodge your application with the competent authority (Embassy of the said country in your country of residence).
  • Example: An applicant wishes to travel to Congo and spend their entire holiday there. Then the application should be lodged online, submitted through proper and official chanels, which is provided by the Embassy visa portal.

  • Case 2 :
    If you are visiting two CEMAC countries, you must apply for a visa at the consulate or Embassy of the two countries where you will be staying , note that if one member state grant a visa, the next one is likely to approve as well, but the process is all at the discression of the Embasy.
  • Example: An applicant wishes to travel to Congo, Gabon and Cameroon. The Embassy of Congo will deal with the application related to the applicant's stay in Congo only. Unless otherwise.

  • Case 3 :
    If you want to visit several CEMAC countries for an equivalent duration of time and without a specific main purpose to be attained in one of the countries, you must apply for a visa at the Embassy of the country of your first point of entry.
  • Example: An applicant wishes to travel to Congo, Equatorial guinea, Cameroon and Central African Republic. This applicant has to apply at the Congolese Embassy which will be his first port of entry.

Where to apply for my visa in South Africa?

Once you know that you must apply for a visa issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Congo, you need to know where to apply in South Africa.


Applicants for a short or long stay visa for Congo, regardless of their place of residence in South Africa, will have to apply online and submit their application to the Embassy of the Republic of Congo situated in Pretoria. The Embassy has no consulates in other major cities of South Africa.


All Visas will then be processed and issued by one centre only which is the Embassy in Pretoria.

Embassy processing time

The processing time for all consular services requests take up to 3 business days from the day a visa application or a consular service request is received. The Consulate of the Republic of Congo in Pretoria, South Africa offers expedited service for visas

It is the responsibility of the travelers to submit their applications long enough in advance, to allow the embassy sufficient time for processing.

We recommend filling applications at least 7 days before the date of travel.

Online Applications will be given first preference.

Additional time

The processing time for an application always varies depending on the documents submitted. If addtional documents are needed by the Embassy, the processing time might slightly change.

We recommend that all applicants submit all required documents online and come through with the hard copies of the submitted documents as per requirement.

No application will be reviewed if all documents are not submitted accordingly.

The Embassy's Fees

The Embassy's fees are set in Rands(ZAR), with the equivalent Euro/Dollar values subject to change based on the current exchange rate.

Therefore, the Rand value of fees may change.

Payment methods

The following methods of payment are accepted:

Please note that we will not accept any other currency than the ones mentioned above.

We recommend that you process your payment when collecting your documents. You will receive a receipt confirming with your payment.

Document checklist

Below are all documents needed to process your visa application:

A fully completed visa application form : Online /hard copy
An online application form can be filled by clicking on apply now.

Two 50 mm x 50 mm passport colour photographs : (with white background)
Applicants are required to bring their own ID photos.

A copy of airline tickets or itinerary : must be provided by applicant
A copy of your airline ticket showing arrival and departure dates in the Republic of Congo.(Mandatory).

A prepaid envelope: :
A prepaid DHL envelope with a TRACKING NUMBER to allow for return of your passport (if the application is submitted by mail).

An invitation letter or hotel reservation : (for the tourist visa)
A typewritten invitation letter legalized by the C.I.D, ( previous D.G.S.T) stating the nature of the trip, the name and address of a reference to be visited in the republic of Congo the legalized invitation letter must be forwarded to the Embassy of the Republic of Congo, Visa section.

A business letter (for the Business visa): A typewritten and legalized by the C.I.D, ( previous D.G.S.T) business letter on company letterhead stating the nature of business to be performed, the name and address of a reference to be contacted in the Republic of Congo. The legalized invitation letter must be forwarded to the Embassy of the Republic of Congo. The Visa Section.

Diplomat / official posted to South Africa:A Note Verbal from foreign Affairs, A Diplomatic Identity Card, Two 50 mm x 50 mm passport color photographs, valid passport and copy of airline tickets or itinerary.

Diplomat stationed in Congo: A Note Verbal from foreign Affairs, A Diplomatic Identity Card, Two 50 mm x 50 mm passport color photographs, copy of marriage certificate if married, copy of birth certificate (for children), valid passport and copy of airline tickets or itinerary.

Recent bank statements : (not older than 3 months)
Last 3 months bank statement, Credit card statement, Note: The applicant names , surname and physical address must appear on it.

A business letter : (For Business visa)
A typewritten letter on company letterhead stating the nature of business to be performed, the names and the address of a reference to be contacted in the Republic of Congo. The Legalised invitation must be forwarded to the Embassy of the Republic of Congo: Visa section.

A note verbal from Foreign Affairs : (For Diplomatic / Official visa)
This is applicable only for Diplomatic and Official visa

Visa fees vary depending on your stay


  • Short stay: 1 month (ZAR 1000) Regular service.
  • Short stay: 1 month (ZAR 1500) Expedited service (3 to 5 days)
  • Long stay:3 months & more (ZAR 1200) Regular service
  • Long stay:3 months & more (ZAR 2000) Expedited service

  • Diplomatic visa applications are exempt from any regular service fees

Collection time : 02 pm to 03:30 pm
